Bringing Baby Out – Madi’s Excursion Checklist

It took me a good 3 months before I had the confidence to take Madi out for more than a jaunt around the block. The thought of bringing her out in a pram and catching the train to the city felt overwhelmingly stressful and made me feel we’re probably better off staying at home. I kept worrying about how to handle her in public if she was to cry and needing a feed. My friends kept telling me “it’s ok, babies cry”, but I felt extra sensitive to her wails, not to mention I don’t want to be that parent who can’t control their kid in public. Honestly, I have never been more thankful for Parents Rooms in shopping centres.

It takes a lot to go out with a baby. Besides the planning around her schedule and logistical navigation, I also had a tendency to overpack her nappy bag to be ready for all situations. This meant bringing way above what was actually necessary and I felt tired just thinking of lugging everything and the kitchen sink around. But with time and growing confidence, I think I have managed to cut it down. So when I feel like that trip to the city or Bondi for shopping and breath of fresh air, I can now grab and go without overthinking.

Until Madi can fully share in my adult foods, I’m expecting there will be a bit more to bring as she gets older. Not the least being extra drink bottles and more snacks!

Hoping this checklist helps other mums!
